Awards and affiliations
We have been twice nominated in the Inclusive category for an award from Active Westminster.
In 2019 our manager was awarded joint Volunteer of the Year at the annual Access Sport Awards.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS CAMDEN
We are an affiliate of Special Olympics Camden.
In 2022 we took two teams to the Summer of Sport National Special Olympic Games in Manchester, where we competed over three days at the National Basketball Performance Centre.
In 2023 we were proud to see one of our members, Grace Colverd, selected to represent Team GB at the International Special Olympics in Berlin in the Women’s 3×3 competition.
We aim to bring young people across London the opportunity to compete in Special Olympic Competitions regionally, nationally and internationally.
If you want to play in Special Olympic competitions, you MUST sign up as Special Olympics Athlete. Here is a link to the form that you will need to complete. Speciaolympics.org We have copies of these forms, and will help you to complete the form and the eligibility process.
If you want to compete in the Special Olympics, this is the first step.
After that, you must regularly attend training sessions at an affiliated club to qualify to compete in Local (26 weeks) Regional (a further 26 weeks) and National Events. Safe Haven Basketball sessions that you attend will help you complete your qualification.
